PushCV Academy Course of the Week: Supervising Others

Every week, we will put the spotlight on one course from the PushCV Academy with the sole purpose of helping you understand how the said course might help you be better at your current job, job seeking efforts or help you be the person you want to be for that career of your dreams. This week we shall look at “Supervising Others”

It’s said that only 2% of the population can do work without any supervision. Supervising people is big business. At every step in the organization of life, supervision happens. From the lowest level engineer with a manager, to the CEO who has a board of directors; who have shareholders they are accountable to. We live in a time where the supervision culture is prevalent and ever present.

The need to supervise people is directly related to what happens when people and things aren’t supervised: they become undone. As mentioned above, only 2% of people work well without any supervision and any business or organization that wants to achieve their mission, vision and goals must ensure that they’re doing what it takes to execute properly. This means supervision of the people they have tasked to help them achieve their goals.

The process of actually supervising others can be a complex skill to learn. One of the biggest issue with supervision as a job is that it always comes with other work appendages attached. So between performing your own work tasks and having to manage and supervise others you can find doing your job impossible. Because of these problems, this course exists. It will help you to be more efficient by helping you become competent in the major areas of supervision such as delegation, managing time and expectations, resolving conflict and setting goals.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Identify the words and actions that constitute harassment.
  • Understand what the law says about harassment.
  • Implement anti-harassment policies.
  • Educate employees and develop anti-harassment policies.
  • Discuss employer and employee’s rights and responsibilities.
  • Address accusations of harassment.
  • Apply proper mediation procedures.
  • Deal with the aftermath of harassment.

This course takes is currently available for FREE on the PushCV Academy and takes less than a day to complete. It will put you through one of the most fundamental skill sets that helps you become a far better manager.
